Lost in reverie

Nightmare book by Theresa Patzschke © 2007

In German mythology “albs” deliver dreams, but also nightmares. In images those alps were depicted as half-human creatures crouching on the chest of the sleeper. Night-alps are scary dreams that can make you suffer if they occur repeatedly. Often they appear before and even after stressful situations (such as car accidents, exams, operations) or after a severe illness. Alcohol and drugs can trigger nightmares, too. The dream can contain both frightening but also banal situations. The literature is full of dreams, particularly bad dreams. Theresa Patzschke chose from a variety of bad dreams and used the following authors and their works as examples: Edgar Allan Poe »The Pit and the Pendulum« / Ingeborg Bachmann »Malina“ and ,,Der dritte Mann«  (,,The Third Man«), Michael Ende »Moordunkel ist das Gesicht der Mutter«  (»Mother's face is dark as a moor«)
