
Islam. Branding. Smile. Experiment.
In the first corner: rocket launchers, populist hate preachers and green headbands. In the second: the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, right propaganda and inhumane discrimination. The Muslims in Germany - an emotional topic. To steal the thunder and to not participate in the conflict I regard Islam as a brand and the Muslim Communication as public relation. I'm convinced that I cannot change beliefs and prejudice by
designing a poster or writing a text, hence this is not my way to approach the problem. Islam is a word too abstract and huge.
To design something that is touchable I've set up a research project to analyse the Muslim community's communication since 2010. For my communication design's subsidiary subject work we materialised some of our research and developed the communication for an Islamic community. We cooperated with the Islamic community in the city of Marburg to develop a new brand which serves as a prime example to influence the public and the community itself by a positive vibe. A brand for a new self-conception: Islam as one of Germany's manifold religions.
